I REALLLLLY NEED YOUR MINDS! - 2008/06/26 15:56 I would like my web site to become a wonderful resource. What you see at the Bamboo Zoo is the effort I have put into this in 3 months. But I dont want to leave people with my set ups as perfection, or my care or descriptions are the only ones they need to see. But the beginnings of where they can go and what they can accomplish and what to strive towards.

I have been frustrated so often when trying to find quality sites...that do more than 5 paragraph care sheets that require so much wasted time on the net. When a newbie to the hobby catches 5 of these when he does a search and sees these same minimalistic results..he believes. How many MBD cases could be prevented by this kid knowing a place to search and go to. AND CHANGE A UVB at the first sign. If pet stores could avail themselves to this kind of site and be able to pass on an education to the herper or to his staff...how far would that go in the development and maintaining of the hobby? Pictures and descriptions of the care and environments needed for a full grown slider...before they purchase one.

It isn't possible to do alone. Here is what I am looking for in directions......I could sure use your minds and knowledge.

Species links that I dont have with considerable sites and other quality links. There are a lot of them out there that I don't know anything about.

A 5 paragraph blurb isn't the education that we need in this hobby. Our young or inexperienced people need to find the resources.

I would also like to post on a number of pages...someone that had a negative experience housing different species together and why they think they failed. I would like to be able to use it as a quote with your reptile name. Something like what works at the bamboo zoo didn't in my home. Real experiences.

I am inviting the hundreds of you who dont do things my way to swing EVERYONE over to your points of view by providing the best education WE can.

I would like to know information that could be passed on to humane societies as to who in the area might be able to help them out rehoming a lizard. Someone that has the knowledge and access to forums and classifieds and contacts. Probably a lot simpler to ask our people to offer themselves as an intermediate and information shource to them.

I WOULD SINCERELY APPRECIATE PERSONALLY GAINING THE KNOWLEDGE...AND THERE ARE COUNTLESS OTHERS OUT THERE...PRAYING TO COME ACROSS THE RIGHT INFORMATION AT THE TIME IT IS NEEDED. IN A LANGUAGE A NEWBIE CAN UNDERSTAND BUT THE DEPTH OF AN INSIDERS MIND.

Pat

I REALLLLLY NEED YOUR MINDS! - 2008/06/26 17:22 You are a very balanced person and that is great. Be sure to give credit to those you get information from; everyone likes their 5 mins of fame. I think by posting this in a forum is a great way to go. I run a rescue site and a forum and people like you keep people coming back. I have viewed your website and I personally think it is great. You go into great detail on why you do what you do, you make sure to tell others that what works for you may not work for others. Your set ups are BEAUTIFUL. Inviting others to share their experiences is a great value. Care sheets cover the basics but never cover alternatives or home remedies. Animals are like people in such a way that one option may not work for another. I commend you on your work and if I can help in any way please let me know.

Dave

I REALLLLLY NEED YOUR MINDS! - 2008/06/26 18:31 I think its really great that your doing that. I know when i first started getting into reptiles it was frustrating trying to find DIFFERENT answers and i tried forum after forum, Literally as it stands im probably a member of 100 forums. But this is the only one ive gotten ALOT of feed back and direction on without people telling me im a complete moron.

If you need any type of in sights let me know. Ive had several different types of animals, Red eared sliders 2 of them rescues, Bearded dragons (2 of them rescues), Anoles, helped raise Iguanas, and snakes. So i have knowledge on What different veterinarians told me to do, to my own knowledge, experiences, and mistakes, down to other peoples knowledge.

I also used to work at a pet store so i have insights there too.

I REALLLLLY NEED YOUR MINDS! - 2008/06/27 15:00 Growling as I am writing a second time...cause I forgot to hit submit

Thank you all for your help and kind words. Much appreciated.

Nicole has offered to put together a what are you getting into page on red sliders.....thank you SOOOO much for that, Nicole.

Dave can I copy this request to your forum?

Dee ~ thank you for participating. Our minds on these topics are fairly opposing and your willingness to stand firm on your side of the fence is an asset to me.

Seahag.......do you know what you are getting into, with a blanket statement like that?

My hermit crabs are fairly new to me....but because they are here I do want to do a section on them...what to expect ... think personality and maintence, with a couple of links to good sites...are there forums for these little creatures? If you could find the time I would really appreciate it?

(fingers crossed)

I would like to work on a section about invasive species with links to good articles...I know National Geographic had a recent one. Who is invading where with what consequences...maybe it will make a couple of people think before they release...or before they buy.

I would also like a page that shows some AWESOME set ups with instructions on creating it and what it takes to run it. There are some ULTIMATE set ups out there....I would love to link with.

If anyone has a few down minutes to find these links...I'll send you a pony for your birthday!!!!!!

(I think I just lied.) Sorry.

Pat

I REALLLLLY NEED YOUR MINDS! - 2008/06/28 14:57 He I have always had the tendency to jump in with both feet so to speak. LOL But, I am one of those people who when she started in reptiles, did it for the kids. We got two iguanas to start with at 3 and 4 foot long. I was not in any way prepared for that, neither were the iguanas. I learned to research what I was getting before I got it. So my approach to reptile keeping is some research with a whole lot of winging it. And yes I can feel you all cringe when you read that. So if you need basically a redneck point of view on things I will try to help. Should I add a poor redneck point of view? Yep another statement to make yall cringe cause I don't have extra money really, the critters around here eat better than we do.

I REALLLLLY NEED YOUR MINDS! - 2008/06/28 15:25 That is exactly the person I want seahag. And very close to who I am as well Sea...which means if you do the hermit crabs for me it will have my similar style, BONUS!....and I love my life and who I am. I wing things too. I got my weekly helper here and I got to go get to the weekly chores! But know we are not the only 2 like us out there!

I REALLLLLY NEED YOUR MINDS! - 2009/05/04 11:54 Hi Lucas

I have nothing on monitors on my website and would appreciate any sites you can pass along, that you find are good sites with plenty of information. That goes for all species of reptiles/amphibians. Hub answers like the one I gave to you on the impaction, health info., uvb info.......all needed. On the links page I think is tegu.com.....good resource.

Would be in your debt for the heads up on quality links.
