    (S) corn snake lighting + heat

i have a eight week old corn snake in its litytle viv & all seems fine.
i am in the midle of building a four foot by 2ft by 2ft viv out of malamine with sliding glass doors for when its older(or if i get another one thats older) dun all the google saerches and am still confuesd about lights, i know corns dont need any added light but i would like to see in the viv
so... would a normal house bulb do or a floresant? during the day. should i use a red bulb at night as im told snakes cant see red light?
bits iv read say a real red bulb not just a painted white bulb???
Truly also how many and what wattage would you lot sugest???
also im in england and was wondering if a habistat heat mat 12 watt 11inch by 11 inch would be enough heat or should i get another of the same , that would cover 1/4 of the viv or..get a 23x11 inch 23 watt heat mat????
Looking at it please try and clear this up for me im not thick , just new to herps

Your heat mat sounds very small for a similar tank. On the whole it shouyld cover a third of the ground surface. For have light combined with heat you could instal a spot lamp of 40 W (the temporery. you would reach in the tank depends on the room temporary.). Red lights are not well, I'm convinced that snakes can see it, especially if they are crepuscolar, as corns. Certainly if you want to use exclusively the heat mat for keep warm the viv, as a light source you could install a neon-light. Thus the ones for reptiles (repti-sun or else) are very very indicated.

I am using fluoresents in mine, since I use a UTH for heat-that gives plenty-and not only do the fluorescents provide the same amount of light as a 40w light bulb, but they give off less heat and saves my electricity bill by a few bucks

I was forced to use a tacitly red bulb to heat my ig tank while I waited for the shop to get more blue bulbs in. The iguana was always awake when I gone out to the bathroom at night while he was always asleep at night when I used the blue bulb
