To give you an idea about how fast or how slow they freeze and if they freeze, I'll tell you what happened to a my friend in Tuskany:
He had a beautiful male cornsnake that one day escaped. He found it the morning after, coiled up outside in front of the doorstep, rigid and covered with hoarfrost (it was late autumn/early winter). The snake was taken inside immediately and warmed up slowly. It turned back alert and apparently normal as before, but died 3 days later.
We don't know how he could have left the house, surely it wasn't a nice surprise and I hope noone ever do such things willfully.

i dont know how fast he would die but im sure the sudden change in temperature would probably give him a resperatory infection

Well, you can do it to wood frogs, Rana sylvatica willingly. They can freeze solid and thaw out in the spring. Their range extends into Alaska, where this can happen. They can also be found in my neck of the woods. Come March they are in the pools and ponds breeding, despite the fact that there can be ice and snow on the ground. Fun little critters.
Aint much to look at, but they are amazing.
