    Snake names

    I've finally come up with some names for my corns

    My friend was here earlier and as she's not allowed to keep snakes at home she's sort of semi-adopted my female. We were discussing names and I suggested she chose one for her and she came up with Sira, which is a name that came to her in a dream one night but had no idea of it's origin or meaning. We did a search on the net and the closest we could find was Cyra, pronounced the same but spelt differently.

    Cyra is the female form of Cyrus, which happens to be an old Persian name related to the Sun. Perfect!!!! ... My female corn is a sunglow, so she is now called Cyra, and just to complete the match I've named the male Cyrus

    Where did you get the name Noodle from? Is he Noodle as in slang for head or
    Noodle as in those tasty dishes you get from Chinese restaurants

    Just so everyone knows to whom I'm refering to in future ...

    Cyra = female corn

    Cyrus = male corn

    Noodle = Brazilian Rainbow Boa

    The Cobra = Western Hognose

    Mr Man = male beardie

    Mrs D = female beardie

    Fatso = Argentinian Horned Frog

    I think it's about time I started calling them by name

    Oh, just remembered something I wanted to tell Sarah! ... I almost had a
    Mooshoo moment today :-O

    Sunday is snake feeding day here and I had my baby boa in a bowl on the floor trying to tempt him to eat a small mouse (I've only fed him rat pups till now so this was new to him) and forgot that the doors to my beardies enclosure were still open as they'd been out for their meal earlier (they like to chase their superworms around the floor to eat!).

    So ... Noodle is waving his head about in the air sniffing at the mouse, but not completely interested at first, so attempts an escape over the side of the bowl ... when all of a sudden Mrs D comes dashing out of her cage and makes a beeline for Noodle :-O If I hadn't grabbed him up out of her way he was gonna be FOOD!!!! I know she likes her superworms but this is taking it a bit far LOL!

    PS he eventually ate his mouse after I dipped the head in hot water to warm it up for him

    Never heard of that as a slang term LOL! I dread to ask what sort of "head" you're talking about

    When I first got him he was quite small, being only a couple months old, and slim as my pinky finger, so the name sort of seemed apt. He squirms like a noodle, or piece of spaghetti, wrapping himself around your fingers too. I had to laugh when I found out Pete had called his burm Noodle though ... I mean come on, one of the biggest snakes around and he calls it Noodle LOL!
    Mind you, that sounds just like our Pete ... wicked sense of humour

    I hope he's doing ok and really miss him being around here. Hopefully he'll be back with us soon though. From what I know of ECT the memory loss isn't usually permanent so he may start to recover soon, if he isn't already.

    <holds up a drink for Pete> ... Cheers Buddy! Miss you loads and wish you a speedy recovery

    *makes notes for later testing*

    You know, Pete's burmese was named "Noodle".

    GOOD LIZARD!! Excellent feeding response!! Hahah, I have to keep that idea in my head or I'll be horribly biased against Savannah monitors for all time... and I wouldn't want that.

    Mooshoo is still feeling the effects of his bite... no scars left on his scales, but he still holds his mouth funny and even after 3 rounds of antibiotics he gasps for breath when he's stressed and right before a shed (still shedding monthly) he mouth breathes. My vet wants to try another type of antibiotic, which I'll be doing soon. Trying to give him a chance to recover from the last round before sticking more needles in him.

    Glad Mrs D didn't get your little Noodle... its traumatic to see, to say the least!

    I didn't when I first named my baby, but I saw it mentioned a few weeks back. Kewl name for a snake

    Oh she certainly has that alright!! ... but I must train her that my snakes
    ARE NOT FOOD!!!

    It's taking him a hell of a long time to get over this, isn't it? I wonder how much psychological damage he has suffered and whether this could be the cause of his continual stress and slow recovery. I really hope he gets back to normal eventually, he's such a beautiful snake. It was seeing his piccies, and falling in love with him, that prompted me to look for a milksnake myself. I've yet to find a Honduran (either juvenile or sub-adult)
    but I've now got myself a lovely little Pueblan baby, or at least will have when the weather comes warm enough for Jon to send him up to me

    Jon sent me some piccies of him hatching and over the following few days.
    I'm sure he won't mind me sharing them with you, and they can be seen in my photo album:

    (can you let me know if anyone has problems accessing this as I've never used this service before and wasn't sure which address to give!)

    Oh, I have absolutely no doubt at all that Noodle would be a gonner now, had she managed to chomp down on his head, and I shudder at the very thought of it especially knowing it would have been my own fault :-

    Happy Holidays to you and all RPH
