Thread: Sick Beardie?

    Sick Beardie?

i noticed today that my beardie had gone to the bathroom , not big deal. This time, it was looser than normal, and there were not fully digested meal worms in it, which ive never seen before. I got my mealworms from a different pet store than normal this one time, so i dont know if the mealworms were bad? can that happen? and they just didnt agree with him or if this is something more serious.
after going to the bathroom, he seemed all happy, running around, and seemed more energetic than the last 2 days.
i threw out the mealworms and im gonna keep an eye a good eye on him for the next day. then maybe a vet?

can anyone tell if he just a stomach bug thing or something serious?

please, any info would be great.
    thanks

If you see them again, it could not be the mealies, he could have pinworms, or some other sort of parasite, I would take a Fresh fecal sample to a vet, Not the dragon, just the poop for now!

he went to the bathroom this morning, probably around 11 or so, thats when it was loose. i went out for a few hours and when i came back, he had gone again. it was solid this time.
i also gave him some new veggies last nite. i gave him carrots [shredded] for the first time, maybe it was that? it was mixed with red bell peppers and snow peas [also a first for him] and some baby spinach leaves. maybe it was the new veggies? and it upset his stomach?
he seems to be fine now, walking/running around, not sulking like the last day or so.

    Sick Beardie?

Well it should be a bit watery, that means that he is being hydrated correctly and he has water in his system, now if it's like diahrea then you would want to worry! Just keep an eye on it, and if you get concerned just take a fecal to the vet they are the best people to diagnos anything properly

Yeah, it seems like he is back to his normal self, but I sure will be keeping an eye on him. I don't want anything to happen to him, he is my favorite.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Not sure if red bell peppers are a good idea. I personally would stay away from any kind of pepper or onion.

I don't give him bell peppers all that often, every once and a while, he likes them, but he doesn't love them. I've never had him react to them badly either. I heard that they like them, also this list says it's ok for them to eat bell peppers every so often:

Peppers are fine, i personally wouldn't use onions though regardless if a list says yes! LOL

I use green peppers verses red bell peppers but i have used all colors and never had any effects of any kind, although they are a bit watery so it could be why you had some water in the feces. Rememeber they are peeing at the same time to!

yeah, thats true. like i said its not very often i give them to him. and ive never given him onions. i always do some research before i offer him new veggies. but its not very often. it more so that he can get some water in his system. he doesnt drink when i leave water out for him. he just runs through it, haha.

Yeah bearded dragons are nutz! Well if there was any lizard that could eat a bell pepper and it not cause stomach trouble it would be a bearded dragon. They have stomach's full of magma, they could eat a rock and digest it lol.
