The everglades Ratsnake (Elaphe obsoleta rossalleni) is indeed a very pretty, and much like Yellow Ratsnakes (E. o. quadrivittata) are quite adept at climbing. A arboreal cage is a excellent choice for either of these two.
These guys aren't always the most friendly of critters, but much more mellow than most species of Ratsnakes. Mine do allow me to hold them if I move
S-L-O-W when I approach them. I have never had any problems with their feeding, as they are somewhat voracious in their appetite.
As far as Ratsnakes go, the Everglades Ratsnake is a good choice for a beginner or novice Ratsnake owner.
FYI~ They are also known as the Chicken Snake.
