    Baby lizzards

My two daghters were at a church outing, today, and came home with a couple of hatchlings in a cup. I feel like they may be Blue tails, but, as they are so small it is hard to tell. The reason that I beleive they are Blue tails is because Blue tails are indiginous to this part of the country.
My problem is, I have no idea what to feed them or what to do with them as letting them go will disapoint my girls. I explained to them that they are wild animals and they should be left in the wild, but telling an 8 and 11 year old and getting them to do are two different things. I even tried to tell them the difference between captive bred animals and wild animals , but they are insistant on ME keeping these little guys as their mom will not let them in her house.
Any suggestions will be very appreciated.
I hope some body can post an indepth reason why my girls should let the lizzards go so that they will understand why they shouldn't keep wild animals.

    Thanks
    Karl

Well can you post some pics so that we can help identify them? Without the for sure knowledge of what species you have, we can not tell you how to care for them.

Sorry , don't have a digi cam. They are about 2 inches long and light brown in color.

Hmm, well I'm sorry, but I think that I would need a pic to actually tell. there are many lizards with many of the same characteristics.

Well!!! Dad! are you willing to tell them that if they keep them that they have to get up early in the morning every MORNING, [not you, not MOm] the same time every day and fix the veggies, then work on the bugs that they get to eat. Trust me on this..!! If you stick with this 1 whole week, and DON'T HELP THEM OUT, that will be the deceiding factor on how fast they deceide if they want to do this.
If they do good, then you have herpers on your hands.. If not then I guess the guy's get to go free!! What do you think.?? If you can not do this with your kids then I think the reps are doomed to begin with!!!???? mUnless you just take them out and let them go!!

Just one problem there Dee, the kids live with mom and the lizzards are at my house. That means either I figure out what to feed them or I let them go and upset the kids. I wonder if they will eat house flies, or will that make them sick?

Don't feed them house flies. You don't know what diseases they are carrying.

Maybe you could talk the children into letting them go if you go and buy them and inexpensive animal from the pet store. I would hate to see these babies suffer from a lack of proper identification or care. Just a thought.

Karl, I like Rach's idea. What about investing in getting a leopard gecko (or something similar) for the kids and letting the baby lizards go. That way they'd have a pet that's most likely captive bred and easier to care for. Plus they're easy to find information online for. Just ask and I'm sure we'll be able to find you answers or websites to help you research a better pet for them.
