    Neglected Animals

Ok, so, there is this place in my city, kinda like a petting zoo, It's called Deer Forest. They have all kinds of animals, all of which are unhealthy and underfed, or fed the wrong thing. All the reindeer are malnourished, you can see their hips and spine, The Russian tortoise is fed tons of spinach which contains Oxalic Acid (an Anti-nutrient) and it had no water available. Actually, most of the animals had little or no water. They have a malnourished, PREGNANT pony, The deer seem healthy, but pretty much everything else is neglected. They have cougars and bobcats in too small of cages. This neglect went on for years before the owners were forced to sell the place, It is now under new management, has been for a few years and the neglect continues. Does anyone know of any organization or authority I can contact to fix this? Maybe the animals can be sent to zoos?

The E.S.P.C.A is a good bet.

Do you have an ASPCA near you?? If not you could try something like this.. Call your local news and tell them of the situation and if they don't seem to think they can do something about the situation, then respond to them by saying that you will contact the Animal Planet network, let them know what is going on and that the local paper/news network didn't seem to think that they could do anything about it... You might be just surprised on what gets done after that. But if it doesn't,,, don't feel to bad and try something else!! Like contacting the local authorities and letting them also know where you will take this if something is not done!!

I think a local news station is a good idea. Sometimes these media outlets also undertake to see a solution be found.

A news network sounds like a good idea, but, I live in a small town and things like animal abuse aren't a "big deal" around here because a neighboring city is well known for dog fighting and there are neglected and stray/abandon animals everywhere. People around here don't care very much, and because the neglect of this place has been occurring for so long, I think everyone is just used to it. Tons of people visit this place all the time, but it is seasonal, only open in the summer and its the only close petting zoo/park thing so I don't think they would do anything to avoid drama or the place possibly closing. And I have no idea if we have an ASPCA. we have a humane society, but they are crap.they don't even care for their rescued animals adequately. So I'm kinda caught between a rock and a hard place. I'll try to find out if there is someone, anyone I can call to help these poor animals. They have reindeer for Christ sake, in southwest michigan in the heat with no water, they have arctic foxes, animals that need a totally different environment, they have a jungle creature thing, and they have lost two cougars(they escaped) into our community and they have not even searched for them, they just got a new one, no news story, no authorities, yet everyone knows and nothing has been done, we have lots of woods for them to live in and lots of cows and chickens and such for them to live off of. So, if no one has done anything about any of it, how can I have an impact? I'm just a 16 year old kid!

    dog fighting???? hmy: hmy: hmy:

OMG. I really don't understand. A law isn't law there? And, whoever perpetrates the law is a perpetrator that should be punished?

What use is having laws if they are not applied?

I understand you can not make an impact. You should try to locate someone with some influence (like a journalist even from outside your town) and hand this case over to him/her. You cannot stand up against the habits of a whole town, but you can, I think, make someone that has enough 'standing' aware of it

yea, I'm going to try my best. I think what I will do is go back, take pictures of the neglect and find a local news station and hope that something is done.
