very nasty BP shed problem

I noticed one of my larger ball pythons was about to shed about 3 nights ago. It looked pretty normal so i upped the humidity and put a large tupperware circle she can completely submerge in and upped the heat a bit.

yesterday she looked normal, cloudy eyes etc but tonight as i was replying on another post i walked over and picked her up to see how she was doing and sat down but now that i'm looking at her it looks as though just bits of soft flesh is coming off her spine area and there is a sort of clear-ish bloody liquid in these spots, there is strange white around her nostrils and heat pits that resembles dried paint (but it's obviously not) and more towards her lower half there are some boil-like protrusions. i'm rather concerned being that this developed over night and she looks very bad now. any ideas?

this....kinda sounds what happened to 2 of my geckos recently, and quite quickly.

there skin pretty much turned white as if to shed and it started to peel, but opened up sores that looked gooey and raw. also had some boil like spots on him. i didn't get the geckos to a vet in time and both died in less then a week of showing symptoms.

so, the best thing to do would probably be to get him to a vet.

given the appearance and speed of deterioration, i almost think its fungal. that said, since you held the snake, i hope you washed your hands before touching other reptiles so it doesn't spread to them.

Post edited by: zaroba, at: 2009/01/11 14:11

I held her, put her back, washed my hands and went to bed but she does have a tank mate

update: she seems to be doing better, been soaking her in anti-biotics and added an oral anti-biotic to her water. the vet said it doesn't seem to be fungal so to start with this and see what happens...
