Thread: Ceramic Heat Emitters....

    Ceramic Heat Emitters....

Just curious. Anybody used the bulb type ceramic heat emitters? Would they go on top of a cage like a light bulb? Do they get red like the ceramic elements in a space heater? Seems it would be too hot unless it was for large area heat. Opinions?

I'm looking to see if I can find a cheapish duel thermostat for my new babies. I'm making them a viv like Kelloggs but leaving the middle wall in for now so they're separated. After all the discussions about breeding unless I have 2 males or 2 females I will keep them separate for a few years.
I also need thermometers and hydrogemeters for the viv we're building Harry although that will be in February so I do have sometime before I need them.
Any second hand cheap accessories will be considered if ayone in the UK had anything they want to get rid of. :-)

I'm so pissed that I missed out on a final bid on Ebay recently for 3 x 250W barely used ceramic heat emitters, including fixtures and fittings, that sold for around £20, when retail prices would have put them at nearer £100 or more (

    I just got one.
They go on top in a ceramic-base fixture.
    They don't glow red.
I have a 150-watt che over a 50-gal. tank for my boa out in my 70-degree garage. The temp is at 88 off to the side, warmer under the bulb.
I've read that the curved, more bulb-like emitters are better than the straight-ended ones because they spread heat out more instead of sending it straight down. Don't know if that's true or not.

Ah, so you saw them too. I couldn't believe the price they sold for when I went back to check, but the auction had just ended

That's a good deal! I should look more often but I tend to get a bit impulsive and addicted to buying stuff from there I did get a good deal on some large heatmats and dual thermometers a while ago though from some guy that buys up bankrupt stock and sells on ebay.

No, not the same thing... the ceramic heat emitters do not emit light. They do not get so hot that they glow red.

I love ceramic heat emitters, although they tend to dry out the cage. I set mine right on top in a regular ceramic light fixture. I think they are very much worth the money. I use 60w ceramic emitters in cages that are 12" high or less, 100w emitters for the tall cages. Never bought a 150w emitter.

I've got a 60 watt CHE that I use for my roach colony. Keeps it at a nice 85 degrees. They supposedly last like 5 years, and if that's true it would be more economical in the long run.

He seems ok, price wise. I'll check all my other shops and see how he compares. I've started buying from Livefood.co.uk, they deliver ontime and are very nice to deal with. If its only a matter of pence then I'll stick with them. I'll let you know.

Thanks for all the imput. I may try one of the 60 watt emitters after all. I kinda like having my snakes where they see us around them all the time. I just need to keep their temps up a bit above 80, and ours around
    74 or so.....lol.
