my toad is rubbing his toes raw

he keeps trying to climb up to side of his enclouser which is a semi-clear plastic container sorta light a steralight or a rubbermaid but i dont remember whats its called
but he keeps trying to climb up the sides so i thought maybe it was time to change out the substrate cuase my bearded dragons to the same thing after the poop like "hey lady clean this up!" so i changed it and he still does it i moved in to a quieter corner on a shelf under another tank to see if making things quieter for him would help and i havnt heard him doing it much anymore but he's made his toes and pads pinkish they look sore should i just leave them alone and they'll get better becuase he's not doing it so much any more or is there something i can do to make them better?

he doesnt have anytank mates but he might havebeen stressed he was up on the couch becuase iv'e moving things around alot cleaning and reorganizing ad my dad put walls up around the room to keep it warmer but i gave him a bunch of dry dead leaves for more hiding space and his main hinding place its and upside down country crock butter bucket with a hole in it i used to find him in their alot but he's out and around alot latley rather that hiding and he wouldn't eat the worm i found for him yesterdat he saw it got that look like he was going to eat it but then just watched it slink away maybe he wants to hibranate and doesnt have enough dirt tom make a suitable place you think that could be the problem? i'll try the neosporin lol its my favorite think i always have a tube around, the clearish kind , not the one with pain relivers, its sorta like petroleum jelly in a tube thats the kind thats ok right?

i usually give him crickets ,worms and sometimes a fat moth. and he has always eaten them as soon as i put them in and followed them if he missed. i just dont have and crickets at the moment so i offered him worms. I've had him since about the end of summer i found him at my freinds house , i wasnt sure what kind he was then becuase he looked black and had stripes in his sides he shed once i got him home which creeped me out at first becuase i just put my finger on him to pet him and his skin just sorta peeled of bu i figured it ou pretty quikly. after that he was olive colored and he changes alot between olivey green brown to Dark brown i think i tepends on the colors near him becuase when he's in the his hide (the butter bucket) he turns almost the same color. im still not sure exactly what kind he is im almost sure he's an American but i think he could be a cross of an american and a fowlers toad. i think he'll be much happier in the summer when he moves outside. another thought i had is that when it was warm out i took him outside alot and let him hop around and eat things but now i dont becuase its could maybe he's just looking for more space?
