Thread: Is my corn pregnant?

    Is my corn pregnant?

I am not sure if my albino corn, Rosie, is pregnant. She is much thicker than the other in the tank. She is also for some reason not wanting to eat. Does anyone know if they happen to eat less if they are pregnant? She also has some of the dirt from her tank trapped in her nostrils. Does anyone know if that could keep her from wanting to eat?

    Thanx

she very well may be. most females will refuse to feed while gravid.continue to offer food anyway, calcium supplements arent a bad idea either, she'll need all she can get.
and i would suggest separating them or your male might try mating again too soon after she lays her eggs, and she probably wont be up for it. pay close attention to her shedding cycle. cornsnakes usually shed once more before laying their eggs (about 10 days before). she will need a lay box. basically an extra hide with damp sphagnum moss inside, it might be a good idea to place a UTH under the lay box as well.
if she cant find a proper place to lay her eggs, she might not at all. and that would be terrible for her to become "eggbound".
after she's finished laying all of the eggs, she will leave them, then you can move them into an incubator (either buy or build one). but DO NOT ROTATE the eggs, they should be moved in the same position they were laid. and in about 60-70 days, you should have new babies.
    Good luck

    Thanx Crystal...
I appreciate your feedback. I am not prepared to have an incubator and all that. What can I use to make one, if need be?

here is a plan for one for you. Note it is easier to just buy one online such as lllreptile is having a great sale on them. http://www.herpcam.com/incubator.htm

I had a racer and made the mistake of rotating the eggs and the eggs died and when you rotate the egg the yolk drowns the snake inside.
