    Lets Talk Tegus(SOME HELP PLEASE)

I'm looking to purchase an Argentine Black and white Tegu...i had a few concerns...1st how do you tell the difference between Argentine and Columbian Tegus who are around 3 months old...2nd what are some signs of a tegu that i would not want to buy...3rd how big should a tegu be at 3 months old(snout to vent)...and finally do Tegus need a lot to climb on or should i just leave 1 or 2 pieces of wood(like numerous hides, wood, plants, etc)?? if someone could answer some of the questions asap because i would like to go visit it again later today...also is friendly at that age?? and is it safe to buy Tegus online(only concidering Regal Reptiles since i've heard many good things about them)

Yeah.......he will be able to. You would be surprised how some issues like that don't slow them down much. Find something that is a little rough on the outside...Like the large pieces of bark. Porous rock...like lava rock but not so rough. You would have to keep an eye on the pads of their feet cause there are no nails. And definately have to keep an eye on his shedding......since he has already had a problem. And even if he has small problems with gripping something......a little struggle is good for them to keep them toned, its extra exercise.

I think you will find the guy you are dealing with a solid support for years. Any pet store that is willing to hold back and not sell you a reptile, because it is too young or not ready, is a guy I would put my faith in and give my money to.

I dont have the answers for you on Tegus, I am just not in the least familiar with them.

You have seen what ill looks like Lucas. Most reptile species are very similar in both look and behaviour when ill. You want, aware, alert, full looking, ask them to throw in some food and watch feeding response. Examine for any abnormalities in the skin. How fiesty and energetic it is in your hand. Does it calm down fairly quickly and quit fighting to examine the situation. Or is it tearing your arm up fighting you?

I had to laugh......you are so right...what a great way to say it! Everyone has their own style. Each lizard is an individual. Each circumstance unique in some way. We all have different beliefs as well and different ways of expressing it. It really is about what works for you and YOUR lizard.

this is so damn frustrating...no one will answer any of my questions...i've been to like 30 forums and they all DONT HELP...i went to the pet store today and i talked to the owner(real nice guy when he sees that your actually interested in reptiles not just looking at them)he lowered the price of the Tegu to 138 and i still cant afford it D= it makes me so sad...i rly want it like it makes me smile just looking at it...it's got a lot of spunk to it for a lizard w/o toes ^_^...plus i love all black and whites i think they are just the coolest looking animals...he willing to sell me 20 frozen mice, 50 large crix(or so) and the animal for 138...that is an AMAZING price i couldn't get that anywhere else i so sad

I am sorry to hear that you have not been able to find answers. It is frustrating. How about trying....ask the experts. Maybe you could get an answer that way. (sending you in a dozen directions ~ aren't I).

I am very taken by underdogs too. You can't help but love em. He won't take a deposit and hold till a certain day? That sucks. Keep going in there and talking to it.....looking longingly at it and telling it you are going to get it home no matter what!
