This thread discusses the Content article: new here

Unless you nail something down expect your monitor to tear it apart. They, like most animals, enjoy a good hide spot. The dirt in the mouth shouldn't affect him unless he's gobbing a mouth full everytime.

Doing great, thanks...can always use a hand with help, that way an idea someone might not know, you might know. I have had some real medical issue's that has taught me a lot...but there is always something new to learn. Plus the more reptile keepers that have been around the block a few times is always good. Not every one agrees all the time, but we sure try to do our best!

Well, getting a few experienced ideas out there helps enormously. I've ran into a few problems and places like these are what helped me out, so I just figured I could help others in the same way. Surpisingly though it was these little collareds that I struggled with. Kermie and his vitamin A deficiency kicked my butt trying to figure the problem out. Luckily knowing him and his behavior it didn't last very long. And he is now about 2.

And then there was the $1000 vet bill from Jelly Belly (Jill). She had this voracious appetite and acted like every meal was here last. So she chased down anything that moved and gobbled it up...well sometimes she'd be chasing a cricket down and the cricket would jump before she made contact and end up biting something else. We laughed at the behavior not thinking it would amount to anything but a mouthful of dirt and Jelly's hurt pride. BUT..while TDY my wife sends me pics of her and her swollen jaw. She got an infection and it ate along her jaw. So she now has a goofed up looking jaw where calcium deposits formed and I think she/we learned. I started taking her out and feeding her by hand. Glad we still have our Jelly Belly though. Sweetest little lizard.

    Experience the hard way unfortunately.

What kind of lizard is Jelly belly? Wow that vet bill hurt...I have had a few vet bills that made me want to cry but nothing that high. Then again I lost both after all that money so it was just as frustrating and disappointing. As much as it hurts to spend some times a vet is just unavoidable!!

Jelly Belly (Jill)is an Eastern collared lizard. We gave her a nickname because of her appetite. Yeah people at work thought I was nuts spending it on a little lizard. Hopefully won't ever have to do it again.

I experienced that kind of loss with my pet iguana as a kid. We got him when he was about 5 and ended up losing him at 11. Took him to the vet cause he was throwing up whenever we fed him. And it was inevitable what was happening to him. It was just like losing a dog or a cat which alot of people don't understand.

But on a lighter note..I'm gonna post some recent pics of Jelly Belly. She has the sweetest face. She cracks me up. I try not to show favorites, but she is so sweet.

Awe she is very cute, she looks like she has male colors, but with her still so small those female colors should come out. I see some blue starting on the legs so that is good. I don't think her face looks bad, so that injury is well hid.

I was checking into a Collard once, but knew I would have a hard time accommodating the needs as an adult and changed my mind. Also the possibility of biting, I felt it was not the best lizard for me...but they sure are gorgeous.

Are those fairly new picture? Or taken when she was a baby?
