The title says it all. What is the correct wattage on a UVB light, for a 20 gallon (long) tank? I'm a a little confused from my research on google and such. Can you guys help?

What do you need a UV light for? Also, what kind of light are you going to get?

Depends if you are looking into a bar light or a compact fluroscent bulb. My recommendation would be a bar bulb, the wattage depends on what you are providing UV to.

I'm providing UV for western fence lizards, wild caught. I was gonna get a compact fluroscent bulb... why do you suggest a bar bulb?

Bars emit a less concentrated amount of UV compared to CFL.

Ok. I'll think about it. What wattage do you think?

Sorry, I'm in kind of a rush... hope I don't come across as rude.

Go with the bar bulb, the compacts are hard on their eyes. If you are in a rush I would grab a 5.0 for now until you can find out a little more about what each needs. 10.0 is desert like beardies, 5.0 are tropical for things who live in more shaded areas but does emit higher uv then the 2.0 bulbs which are more of a high visible light output. sorry I can't help you more but I only use the 10.0. Hopefully someone here who knows more can give you better input.

Update! I got the bulb and set it up right away. It was incredible... both lizards ran up under it and turned black (to absorb) immediately. After a few minutes of basking, they started running around (more then ever before I got the light). Pretty cool. I got a few pictures of them. I'm gonna post them in the picture section...

Thanks for all the help again!

No problem...I would still check to see that the 5.0 will be sufficient for them. Like I said I was not 100% sure but I figure that was your best bet until you know for sure. Hopefully if I am wrong someone here will notice and correct me. Did you get them a basking light as well?

Glade they are happy and entertaining you
