Pics of female Burmese, outside - 2007/04/22 18:37Just thought I would share these pictures of our female Burmese. My boyfriend carried her outside yesterday and I took pictures of them together. She is about 9' and generally pretty docile. She has never attempted to strike at us or anything. She eats rabbits every 2-3 weeks, although she refused to eat the last time and we HOPE she's newly gravid. She has been mating with our Albino Burmese lately.
Pics of female Burmese, outside - 2007/04/23 15:59Now, that's what I call a 'snake' - (although all the others are well of course - only this size is more recognizable for me)
Can(!) she bite? And if so, where to you have to watch for (sudden movements excluded)?
Pics of female Burmese, outside - 2007/04/23 17:28Thanks all. I'm not sure about her weight but she is probably about 40 lbs. She outgrew rats so we only feed her full-grown adult rabbits.
To answer your question, Eve: I'm sure she can definitely pack a punch if she ever decides to bite one of us. We watch for hissing, of course, and sudden restlessness. When we were almost done taking pictures, for example, she started slithering away from us and was moving around a lot more. When the BF went to pick her up and carry her back inside, he had to restrain her head because she started to get very agitated. We think it was because she got used to being "free" and lying in the sun and she didn't want to be moved. I'm pretty sure she would've bitten him if he hadn't picked her up the way he did. When he put her back up, she started to hiss and was trying to wrestle out of his grip. Her head kinda jerked and her mouth opened when he released her. Probably the most pissed off I've ever seen her. ---------

Pics of female Burmese, outside - 2007/04/24 01:45that is interesting about her giving your BF a hard time going back inside, not that long ago we took one of my friends 6' male tiger retic outside and let him slither around, and 85% of the time he would come right back to us and try to climb up one of our legs, im pretty sure hes more so related to a cat then the female retic....she is meaaan
Pics of female Burmese, outside - 2007/04/24 17:12Haha. I think the burnm may have just wanted to be alone to bask in the sun! They dolove the sun!! ---------

Pics of female Burmese, outside - 2007/04/24 17:48Yeah, she really seemed to enjoy being outside. And I had a dream that she laid eggs last night, lol. So maybe that is a good sign. ---------

Ohhh.... the poor thing she enjoyed her 'outing' and had to find herself confined inside again without asking her (no accusing her towards your decision of course to return her to her home, just an observation from what you write) -
I see, so precaution is always on your mind, I notice. That's good. I also like it that they're not made into docile animals who could suit the term 'pet' but do injustice to their heritage
Re:Pics of female Burmese, outside - 2007/04/24 21:03I just had my Retic outside. Loves the sun, he was beiing a turd during and after his bath. So outside i took him and he calmed down and was fine. Still has his deep breathing leave me alon going on thogh. Hes fine now.
Re:Pics of female Burmese, outside - 2007/04/24 21:29While we're on the subject of having large snakes outside, what about large ALBINO snakes? I thought they didn't like being under bright lights but I've heard of people taking them outside.
Do any of you know for sure? If we can, I'd like to take our other Burm outside for a stretch. He's albino and the future daddy of the other one's babies. ---------

Re:Pics of female Burmese, outside - 2007/04/25 16:29Thanks, Spike! Good to know. I don't want to cause him any extra stress and there is so much conflicting information out there. ---------
