Help with shedding/stuck eye caps - 2008/12/27 03:50 My boa (Maynard) normally has good shedding patterns, but this time, one of his eye caps along with some of the skin on top of his head is totally stuck. I've soaked him a couple times, but the crap over his eye is starting to worry me and I'm wondering if there would be a good way to help him in removing it??

Help with shedding/stuck eye caps - 2008/12/27 04:14 For one, what type of boa?
Two, what is the humidity?
Lastly, how long has it been on there?

Help with shedding/stuck eye caps - 2008/12/27 06:38 He's a Columbian red tail, the humidity is probably not consistent enough since I don't have a meter in there (tsk, tsk), just mist a couple times a day... yea that's on my shopping list by the way, just moved him to a larger tank And he completed the rest of his shed, in 2 tidy pieces, 2 days ago. He's had only two sloppy sheds prior to this, but this part on his eye looks horribly uncomfortable...I really would like to stop permanent damage to his eye if i can do anything.

Help with shedding/stuck eye caps - 2008/12/30 13:21 You can soak it for a few hours daily until it falls off, you can use tweezers and a very steady hand, the scotch tape method posted by buford does work and SnM_Man you are correct as well about using Mineral Oil and a Q-tip. Just gently rub until it becomes moist and is pulled off by the Q-tip.

Help with shedding/stuck eye caps - 2008/12/30 14:47 one stuck eye cap or one bad shed wont result in problems. problems occur when the bad sheds or eye caps build up a lot.

when one of my snakes has a bad shed, i just wait until i see the next shed coming and increase the humidity to make sure its good shed so it takes off the old skin as well. it's always worked for me.
