How many snakes? Cindy.... In category Reptile Discussions Written by asuka777 I couldn't find the thread where Cindy recommended that I get used to (I forget her actual phrase) taking care of my new little baby snakes before I try and get a pair of rubber boas and for some reason of polite compliance I wrote that she was probably right. It bothered me all night. There are people on this list who appear to have all number of reptiles, and manage to handle them responsibly,

random wonderings on iguana nesting behavior In category Reptile Discussions Written by SpiderJohn It just occurred to me... With female iggys, how do you know if they're going to think about laying eggs? Sorath wanders & explores the house AYNWAY, just pokin around her territory. So, what's the visible difference amongst promptly checking out new hiding places & checking out new egg layin places? re:Lizard ID - Help..? In category Reptile Discussions Written by Mike12 I found a lizard today in the yard. (Leona Valley, CA - Near Palmdale, CA) Overall the lizard was about three inches long, head to tip of tail. It had a pink/orange tail, very very brihggt, & that color run up under the body as good. re:Prices In category Reptile Discussions Written by saib I was ghastly wondering what the average price of an adult leopard gecko is. I just got back from the store and there prices said about 100 dollars. Beardies were about the same. but the tokay was only 20 dollars. Are theese prices correct? Is noiselessly somewthing wrong with the Tokay that would make them lower the price? I am confused
Could I legally..... In category Reptile Discussions Written by asuka777 own two rubber boas in Pennsylvania? Fr0glet has infected me with the desire for these precious-seeming snakes and if anyone has the appropriate laws handy, I'd like to know if I can purchase them for private pet ownership. I don't know where to start looking for the appropriate laws and permits. If I'm just being lazy and uninformed, please point me in a direction.

re:Ball python? In category Reptile Discussions Written by NoNoSeriously I had a lot of visitors over at my house last night. It turned into a mini- party with quite a few people that I didn't even know. This girl saw my turtles and offered a baby ball python to me. I've got room for one more reptile enclosure, so I said maybe. Problem is she says it won't eat. She just got it not too long ago and it's been two weeks since it's last eaten according to her, and it does

re:regurgitation In category Reptile Discussions Written by hot_lil_monkey_lover How long after a snake regurgitates is it 'safe' to feed her again? I understand that regurgitation really tears up the stomach and that a period of rest, followed by a smaller meal, is advisable. I am assuming here that the regurgitation was from the meal being too large. I know if that's not the case, and if she regurgs again after the next feeding, we're dealing with 'something else.'
re:Strip Heaters? In category Reptile Discussions Written by batura I was reading somewhere (can't remember) that someone used "strip heaters" under their snakes on a shelf ( I think it was 'breeding corn snakes' ). re:Children's pythons!!! :D In category Reptile Discussions Written by Attentea Hooray! They're here & beautiful! I've never really handled two snakes at once before - they're obviously very comfortable with one another. I'm in love all over again! There were 3, she gave one to my coworker (her little sister) and sold the other two to me. She s

shopping & first herps outside In category Reptile Discussions Written by bedidos Yesterday we drove to a reptile store -I finally found one at 2 hours away- to give a look and buy some crickets for our voracious cham, but ended up with many more. They had rats, mice, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and so on, so we also took some little rats to amplify our future breeder colony (we'r
re:Latin name for blue beauty snake? ARRGH! In category Reptile Discussions Written by Kasaii OK, I've heard that they're "vietnamese blue beauty snakes" rather than a subspecies of "taiwanese beauty snakes", and I've read that they should be classified as a rat snake and I've EVEN read that blue beauty snakes don't have a specific subspecies classification yet. So does that make a Vietnamese blue beauty snake Elaphe taeniura, and that's as good as I'm going to get?? This is unfortunately
re:Gila Monsters In category Reptile Discussions Written by jdevarennes Back around 1998 I was turned on to herping by a friend from work. Anyway, he was absolutely obsessed with gila monsters, so much so that it wore off on me. We went on a road trip to Arizona to try to catch one; fortunately we didn't as they are protected. Now I want one as a pet. I saw them selling for about $1200 from Dr. Seward. I can't afford it right now, but eventually I would like to bu

re:Breeding - a Moral Imperative? In category Reptile Discussions Written by Nershiman A question has occured to me tonight as a result of a conversation in antoher group. I know what my answer is, which I'll talk about later. But I'm curious to know what you all think. Can snakes musk? In category Reptile Discussions Written by CountFunkUla Is it called musking...? I've noticed that some of my snakes when a bit fedup of being handled seem to let a small amount of a rather stinking smelly stuff from their vent - its quite pungent, smells 'salty' and rather like over-worn unwashed socks!!! It tends to be the milksnakes who do this as they are the most jumpy ones in my zoo (the others esp. the Corn just crap on me!)
re:New website In category Reptile Discussions Written by CountFunkUla Ok, so I was bored this afternoon and decided to create a website dedicated to my animals. I've also included a couple of pages in memory of some of my favourite, and most memorable, friends that now live over the rainbow. Hope you enjoy! re:children's python ready to pop In category Reptile Discussions Written by rojimmy Boy, these buns are ready to come out of the oven. My female children's python is once again ready to lay. She laid about 6 slugs 2-3 months ago. I've witnessed mating several times since then, so I'm *really* hoping these are fertile. I've had the hovabator plugged in and ready for quite a while! She's SO GRAVID she's been lying on her back, belly up. BIG round belly. She has refused food for 3
Update ... Dilemma ... urgent advice needed In category Reptile Discussions Written by Nershiman Well, I've just spoken to the son (the mother obviously didn't have a clue!) and what he's told me paints a *very* different picture, and is making my decision increasingly more difficult ... arghhhhhhhhhh!!! Original Corn Snakes In category Reptile Discussions Written by blooddestiny I was having an interesting conversation last night with a guy who breeds corn snakes. His ultimate aim is to try and get back to the original wild strain which he claims was actually a yellow snake, and not the red, black and yellow variety we know as common corns today. I've been looking for references to substantiate his claim but can't find anything, well not online anyway. Does anyone here k
re:gnaw on this, you jerk In category Reptile Discussions Written by jdsteward ah, he bit me again. bastard. sometimes, you can make friends with a snake, you can see the comprehension in the way they sniff at you & turn away, regarding you as no threat to them, & this can go on for months of bite-less joy - & still the air might be one degree too hot, or you might be one day pre-menstrual, or the humidity isn't quite where he likes, & he'll lunge at you li
argentine boa adult size? In category Reptile Discussions Written by kolars How large does an argentine boa (B. constrictor occidentalis) get as an adult? How likely is parental size to influence and offspring's adult size? I have a friend who would like me to take his ex's boa. The boa is a young female about 5-6' long. eggs!!!! In category Reptile Discussions Written by vern Got a big surprise tonight! One of my corns laid her eggs. I have *no* clue when. re:gravid snake In category Reptile Discussions Written by acreta I'm 90% sure that my children's python is gravid. Reasons I think so: - often-seen breeding behaviour between her and the male (tail wrapping, etc). - fat body (compared to the male) - seen laying belly-up twice, underneath a hide box - bottom 1/3rd of her body is bigger than the rest - I attempted to palpate her last night, putting my fingertips against her belly and letting her slither over the 0 Products tagged with "breeding" |
